What is Ethereum? Programmable Money, Explained

A smart contract is a program that runs exactly as written and can’t be quietly changed. The most relevant use for payments is tokens : Ethereum’s ERC-20 standard lets an issuer create a coin that lives on Ethereum. That is how USDC and USDT - dollar-pegged stablecoins - work.
